Researchers

Agathe, 23 years old, a brilliant and ambitious chemistry student, arrives in Paris to begin her thesis at the prestigious laboratory of Anne Risler, a researcher as charismatic as she is demanding, whom she greatly admires. Agathe is fully committed: she has the opportunity to work on the lab’s most promising subject, térastène, a molecule that could prove to be a revolutionary antidepressant and cure hundreds of millions of people.

But Charles, a flamboyant 25-year-old researcher in his final year of thesis, doesn’t see it that way: térastène is his discovery; and in this environment, there are neither friends nor collaborators. However, when Charles realizes that Agathe has a true talent for chemistry, a friendship nourished by deep respect develops between them. Charles learns to trust, while Agathe, who has never been very socially comfortable, learns to open up to others. By Charles’s side, she discovers herself. And together, they are ready to move mountains.

Unfortunately, térastène turns out to be much less effective than expected: it’s a failure, and Agathe and Charles are under pressure to bounce back. The day Anne Risler asks Agathe to betray Charles by retrieving his research to continue alone, Agathe finds herself cornered. She accepts: thus begins a long descent into hell for her.
